The search for his liberator

Ampfing camp
1994

And in 1994 I got in touch with the soldiers of the 14th Armored Division who liberated me.

In September 1939, just after the beginning of the Second World War, the POW camp Stalag VII A was built in Moosburg, north of Munich. Towards the end of the war 80,000 Allied soldiers were imprisoned there. These POWs were primarily French and Russian soldiers. In 1945 American troops occupied Moosburg, and the POWs were liberated.

Until 1948, Stalag VII A served as Interneringslager where a total of 12,000 German prisoners who were suspected of criminal activities for the Nazi regime were imprisoned. After 1948 the camp was used as a shelter for people who had lost their homes during the war.
