A warm welcome
In Maastricht we went into the city to celebrate being back in Holland.
After arriving in the reception center, the returnees were at once deloused (dusted) with DDT powder. This was followed a few hours later by a medical examination where the medical service was aided by Dutch Red Cross volunteers. The sick were transported to hospitals. People with a contagious disease like typhus ended up in quarantine camps. Returnees who were declared fit, were sent to the Departure Assembly Point. This was where registration of the returnees took place, and this was followed by an investigation into their political reliability. The fact is that among the returnees there were collaborators, who were taken to internment camps by the proper authorities.
